Decemberists and Death Cab For Cutie to play benefit show in Seattle next month.

Two mainstays of US alternative music – The Decemberists and Death Cab For Cutie have announced that they will play a benefit show for the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood in Seattle next month. Billed as “an acoustic evening”, the show takes place on June 9th at The Paramount with support provided by Sera Cahoone. Tickets go on sale on May 12th at 10.00 PST.

Both bands have issued statements about the concert. The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy wrote, “There are enough stories from this last week alone — the Trump administration’s attempts to curtail first amendment protections and the GOP’s passage of the heartless AHCA — to remind us that organizations like Planned Parenthood and the ACLU need our support now more than ever. We Decemberists are proud to do our bit to help those orgs stay funded and active in their communities, both local and nationwide. RESIST!”

Death Cab’s Ben Gibbard was equally forceful – “We as Death Cab For Cutie are appalled by the divisive, xenophobic and misogynistic agenda the Trump Administration is attempting to implement in our country.  We are proud to be joining our friends The Decemberists and Sera Cahoone in support of both the ACLU and Planned Parenthood at this pivotal time in our nation’s history”.

The Decemberists, in collaboration with Olivia Chaney, under the name Offa Rex, are about to embark on a string of dates in the US from July 23rd, with dates of their own starting from August 8 in Vancouver.
