Following the unfortunate and for now incapacitating back injury of Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Manchester indie rockers James have been drafted in to headline the Friday night of Lancashire’s Beatherder festival. Whilst you’d be right in thinking that this indie band is an odd choice of headliner for an otherwise dance orientated festival, James will nonetheless go down a treat. Here’s why.
The alarmingly commercially successful band (35 million albums sold worldwide) are, indeed, an indie band. But they are an indie band of the very finest quality, something even the crustiest techno head isn’t able to resist, and on top of this they possess a dancey vibe to their music. A groove is never far away from most of their hits such as Sit Down and Laid, and these songs are all the better for it.
Taking the best of the environment they grew up in musically (80s-90s Manchester) and adding an unapologetically, shimmery c86 glaze to it, you can be assured that you won’t have to stop dancing for James at Beatherder.
