Evangeline Gentle has shared a pair of new singles, “You and I“ and “Black is the Colour.” They represent different aspects of the artist’s songwriting, connecting to their upbringing and experiences as a live performer.
“You and I“ is the preludial a cappella opening song of Evangeline‘s live show. The song’s message seeks to unite audiences with a sense of sameness. The belief that our deepest connections are found through expressing vulnerability compelled Evangeline to perform this track completely unaccompanied.
In contrast, “Black is the Colour“ is a traditional folk song that Evangeline first heard during their childhood growing up on the northeast coast of Scotland. Their love for Celtic music persists, despite having moved to Canada at age 11.
