Zafu is the debut solo work from Essex-based producer Peter Anderson. The multi-instrumentalist – bassist for psych-pop band Beach for Tiger and disco outfit Rayowa – cooks up jazz-infused melodies in his home studio working from a palette of cross-genre influences including Bonobo, Shlohmo and Kiefer.

Zafu is a contemplative, four-track instrumental EP awash with slinky, buoyant synths and effervescent guitar melodies. This is delicate, lowkey mood-music; ‘Overdue Downtime’ is a subtle prelude with gorgeous guitar nuances while the zephyrous closing track ‘Drift’ is a particular gem. Fans of Kevin Parkers diffident synth-pop or Mac DeMarco’s “Jizz Jazz” will want to give this one a spin.

A tranquil and transcending debut, Zafu offers a welcome retreat in a troubled time.
