As drummer of the legendary rock experimentalists Can, Jaki Liebezeit forged a completely unique and deeply influential style of drumming. Although he may be best known for his ’70s output, Liebzeit continued to work until only weeks before his death in January this year.

Perhaps the most important of his later work was the creation of an in-depth theoretical analysis of drumming, which he explored with his drumgroup Drums Off Chaos. In addition to detailing this personal thesis in rhythm, a new book entitled ‘Jaki Liebezeit: Life, Theory and Practice of a Master Drummer’ will also serve as a more tradition biography, as well as offering a comprehensive discography of Liebezeit’s work both solo and in collaboration with numerous bands.  The book is being spearheaded by Jono Podmore, a long-term collaborator of Liebezeit’s, and is currently in the crowd-funding stage and can be contributed to here.
