TLC’s final album set for release this summer

It has been two years since TLC’s T-Boz and Chilli launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their fifth and final album, but now it seems the wait is finally over as the album drop date is announced.

They surpassed their $150,000 goal within the first week and one month and 4,000 backers later they had $430,255 worth of pledging, $5,000 of which were donated by fellow artist, Katy Perry.

The fan-funded album is scheduled for a June release as announced by manager Bill Diggins on the Kickstarter page on Monday the 27th of February, “I am thrilled to let you know that the album is tentatively scheduled to be released at the end of June […] We are working out the official date in the next couple of weeks and once it is final we will notify you,” he said.

“This album could not have happened without your support and your confidence in TLC has inspired us greatly to make the best album possible. We would have loved to have delivered this album sooner to you but we are confident that you will agree that it was worth the wait when you hear it. The pursuit of excellence is never an easy task and always takes longer than expected.”

The album is their first project since 2002 when 3D was released, which dropped about seven months after the third member of TLC,Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ death in 2002. The album 3D featured Lisas contributions on half a dozen tracks, which would make this new release the first studio album since the death of founding member and the only one without her voice.

“When we decided to do the album it was based on a number of emotional decisions and one of the biggest was how you inspired Tboz and Chilli by your emails and texts asking them to do another album,” Diggins added. “They demanded of themselves a record that would stand up to the great body of work created in the past and that you would be proud of.”

More details about the albums release date will surface soon so stayed tune.
