Experimental Rock legends Swans have announced a reissue of their intense 1994 double album ‘The Great Annihilator’. Swans frontman Michael Gira has been overseeing a reissue campaign of the group’s older work for the past few years, with ‘The Great Annihilator’ being the most recent album of many to see reissue; with previous Swans albums to get the treatment including 1983’s ‘Filth’ and 1991’s ‘White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity’.
‘The Great Annihilator’ has long been regarded as one of the band’s finest works and certainly one of their most intensely ambitious, clocking in at over an hour. The album has been out of print on vinyl since its release over twenty years ago, with original copies changing hands for comfortably over £200. The album was reissued on CD in 2002, but even that version is hard to find today.

An obscure Michael Gira solo release from around the same time – ‘Drainland’ – is to be bundled with the reissue of ‘The Great Annihilator’. The CD version of the reissue will be a two disc set with an album on each, whilst the vinyl version will only feature ‘The Great Annihilator’ on disc, but will come with a download of both albums.
The reissue is due for release on 28th April via Young God Records. An assortment of preorder options can be perused here, at their website, although readers outside of the US might be best to wait as international preorder options will likely open up over the next few weeks.
