The Low(e) down – Yep Roc reissue six hard to find Nick Lowe albums

Proving there’s way more to Nick Lowe than a couple of hit singles at the tail end of last century, Yep Roc are reissuing six of his long unavailable 1980’s albums. Making their digital debut on July 14th are “Nick the Knife”, “The Abominable Showman”, “Nick Lowe and His Cowboy Outfit”, “The Rose of England”, “Pinker and Prouder Than Previous”, and “Party of One”. Fans of physical product will be pleased to know that CD and Vinyl versions will also be available, starting with “Nick the Knife” and “The Abominable Showman” on July 14th – the other four titles follow on later in the year. The reissues come with the obligatory addition of demos, outtakes, live recordings and alternative artwork. He’s also about to begin a short run of live dates in the US, starting on June 8th at the Playstation Theater in New York City.

Lowe started his musical career in 1969 as a member of Kippington Lodge moving on to Brinsley Schwartz and Rockpile. From the late 70’s, he was in demand as a producer for artists including The Damned (he was at the desk for their debut 45 “New Rose” – the first UK Punk release), Elvis Costello and Johnny Cash among others. His no-nonsense approach earned him the nickname “Basher”. His 1974 song “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding” was covered in 1992 by Curtis Stigers and subsequently appeared on the soundtrack to “The Bodyguard” which went on to sell a massive 44 million copies worldwide.

Yep Roc have been custodians of Lowe’s work since 2008 and have reissued a number of his titles including his first solo album “Jesus of Cool” which was renamed “Pure Pop for Now People” for the US market.
