5 questions in 5 mins – here goes:

Welcome, hope you are all well. Thanks for taking time to speak to us today.

About this time last year, you won the Bob Harris Emerging Artist award at the UK Americana Awards. Now, you’ve released the deluxe version of your debut album ‘Wild Silence’ As you look back, what have been the highlights of the last 12 months?

The last 12 months have been a whirlwind. We released our debut album! We went on two sold-out headline tours of the UK, including an incredible night at the beautiful Islington Assembly Hall. We went to the US for the first time and made our Opry and Ryman debuts in June, played at Graceland in Memphis (you can hear some of the tracks on the Deluxe album), then went back to Nashville in September to play Americanafest. We also played some incredible festivals last summer including Latitude, Black Deer and BST Hyde Park.

Five things you love about being in a band include …….

1) Hanging out with your mates and calling it work

2) Writing songs about stuff that’s important to you – it’s kind of like therapy I suppose

3) Meeting other musicians who love music and storytelling in the same way we do

4) Getting to perform songs you’ve written and hearing fans sing your words back to you!

5) Having your team with you wherever you go! It’s nice to be able to support each other

Some of the exclusive new material on the deluxe version of the album was recorded in Memphis. What are your recollections of that experience?

It still feels a bit like a dream really. We were invited to play at Graceland by the wonderful Marty Stuart after we supported him over here in the UK. It was so special to play there, and pretty nerve wracking singing an Elvis song AT Graceland! After the show, Marty’s team said they’d recorded the performance and asked whether we wanted the tracks. We said yes of course! When we heard we were going to get to release a Deluxe version of our album, it was a no brainier to put some Live at Graceland tracks on it. We are so excited to be able to share the music from that performance.

Please tell us the story behind the song ‘Run’

Run is a post-breakup song. We wrote it in the really early days of the band, when we didn’t know each other very well, so we kind of bonded over the common stuff that hurts – the loves and losses. It’s about someone trying to rebuild their life after the breakup but still being surrounded by all of the memories – physical and emotional. They are trying their best to move on when actually they just feel overwhelmed and running away feels like the best way of dealing with it.

What are your plans for 2019?

We’ve just released our Deluxe version of Wild Silence so we’re all pretty happy about that. We are back in the studio already, writing for our next album and we can’t wait to start recording that later this year. Before then, we’ve got our tour with Ward Thomas, the Spotlight Stage at C2C in Glasgow and London, and a trip around indie record stores throughout the UK. Then we’re into festival season, which we love. It’s gonna be a good year!
