Fresh from supporting Manchester Orchestra at the end of 2018 and headlining their own sold-out UK tour in January 2019, LA based US alt rock band Slothrust release a new single “Peach” on May 3rd through Dangerbird Records. The track is taken from their fourth full-length critically acclaimed album “The Pact”’, released last September and produced and engineered by multi-Grammy award nominee Billy Bush (Garbage/The Naked & Famous/Neon Trees.) Slothrust are: Leah Wellbaum (vocals/ guitar), Will Gorin (drummer) and Kyle Bann (bass guitar). We wanted to find out more about them so we took 5 minutes to ask a few ‘Take 5’ questions with Leah from the band….
When did you realise that you wanted to be musicians in a band? What or who has inspired you ?
I come from a line of classical musicians so music has always been a huge part of my life. I am not sure I imagined myself being a professional musician until it started to happen on its own. I think being deeply involved with music in many capacities was inevitable for me.
Who, living or dead, would you dream of collaborating with?
Chopin, Mica Levi, Fats Waller, Queen Latifah.
Tell us about your latest single ‘ Peach’– what does it mean? What was the idea behind the cartoon themed video?
The song “Peach” is charged with wonder and curiosity for the unknown. There is a youthfulness about the lyrics to this song and we wanted to bring that to the video. I have always been obsessed with this idea that music is a universal magnet that draws in all walks of life in a harmonious way.
You are based in L.A. Tell us five things you love about the city and why……
· It’s big and diverse in its offerings. There are always new places to be explored.
· Peacocks are native and you never know when you might encounter one.
· People make a ton of different types of music and there are constantly new types of performance to experience. I have been to a couple amazing puppet shows.
· Beautiful weather.
· The nature is fabulous– ocean, mountains, desert. It has it all!
What are you most looking forward to this year?
We are looking forward to continuing to tour and also to getting back into the studio to make new music.
