“Witter”, VERB, informal: speak at length about trivial matters.

“Quick”, ADVERB, informal: at a fast rate

“Witterquick”, NOUN, proper: west-country rock band who make intelligent heart-felt music.

Appearing again at Camden Rocks festival this year GIGsoup caught up with Ollie from Witterquick and found out what it means to them (the festival, not their name, that’s from a comic book character).

When did your relationship with Camden start?

I used to come up to Camden a lot as a teenager to see bands or just hang out in the market, it always had that exciting, a little dangerous, exotic feel

Have you played in Camden before?

Yeah we have, quite a lot actually. We’ve played most of the venues there now, and played Camden Rocks last year too. We had an incredible show at the Electric Ballroom with Nothing But Thieves, that was one to remember for sure!

What was your reaction when you knew you would be playing there this year?

Knowing that you get to be a part of something so big is always exciting, it’s an incredible day to be a part of, the whole town is buzzing! We’re always appreciative that we get to do something like this when we know there are thousands of bands who don’t make it on the bill each year.

From the announcement of bands so far who are you looking forward to seeing and who would you hope may yet make it on?

We can’t wait to see Feeder, but that goes without saying. Reigning Days are South West buddies so we’ll be clinking a cider with them, and Max Raptor will be great to hang with again. We played with MOSES last year so we’re looking forward to seeing how those guys are getting on too. Who do we want to be here? Young States. We played with them on tour earlier in the year, those guys have got something.

Have you been to Camden Market, what did you buy?

I found a really rare KoRn B-side album actually, it’s all about the rarities. And some awesome boots, that’s what Camden is about.

Which Camden venue is the best to play at?

The Electric Ballroom is a great venue, venues that big give you the opportunity to BE the band that you know you are, without the restrictions of small stages. Sometimes it’s the smaller clubs with the right build up of energy that end up being your favourites though, it’s all about the crowds.

Camden Starbucks used to be the Lock-keeper’s lodge, do you know any Camden trivia?

We had a night-time street party with our fans after we played a show there, there’s some WITTERQUICK Camden trivia

Why should I as a gig goer make an effort to see you guys at Camden this year?

Because we’re not faking it

Genuine and talented, Witterquick not only write intelligent, sensitive rock songs but they can perform these complex songs live too, see for yourself at Camden Rocks in June tickets HERE
