Veridian are a six piece rock band from Reading. Though only formed in 2016 they are already making waves, sounding not dissimilar to Mallory Knox or You Me At Six there is no reason why these Berkshire boys shouldn’t make it big with their slick live shows and well crafted songs. Stone Broken may have three less men than Veridian but they’ve got a rock chick who more than makes up for it if the expansive sound they put out is any indication. Both of them are at Camden Rocks this summer, here’s what they think about that..
When did your relationship with Camden start?
(V) We all live in Reading which isn’t far from London, so we’ve been going down to Camden market since we were really young to watch bands that inspire us at Roundhouse, Koko and Electric Ballroom to name just a couple of venues.
(SB) Our relationship with Camden started at the famous market, our merch lady told us about it so we decided to go and have a look and we loved it. There’s a true vibrancy about the place.
Have you played in Camden before?
(V) Our 2nd show as a band was at the Black Heart with the dudes in Chapter & Verse. It was sold out and the show was sick! It was a decent start for us as a band.
(SB) We’ve played Camden a couple of times now, we’ve headlined the Black Heart twice and both times it has sold out, so we have some awesome memories of Camden. It’s a great little rock venue, cool bar downstairs and hot sweaty gig room upstairs. We love it there.
What was your reaction when you knew you would be playing there this year?
(SB) We’d heard so much about the festival, having always liked the look of the line-ups. We’ve wanted to play it for a few years now, so it was awesome to have the confirmation come through that we were finally playing Camden Rocks 2017.
(V) We were really excited when our manager James messaged us the news. We’ve all been before over the years to drink 100 beers and watch our favourite bands. It’s gonna be a good chance for us to check out some of our friends bands and some new ones.
From the announcement of bands so far who are you looking forward to seeing?
(V) So far… Carl Barat and the Jackals and also The King Blues both wicked bands. But there’s so much solid up and coming talent on the line-up like Holding Absence, Black Orchid Empire, Tigress, Max Raptor and Divides.
(SB) There are loads of awesome bands playing this year, so there’s a lot that we want to go see but to name a few we’d have to say Aaron Buchanan and the Cult Classics, Colour Of Noise and Screaming Eagles.
Have you been to Camden Market, what did you buy?
(V) Yeah definitely, we used to buy loads of inappropriate t-shirts we’d never wear and obscure paraphernalia.
(SB) We didn’t buy a lot really, we just went to see what it was all about and soak up the atmosphere, however we did stuff our faces with food.
Which Camden venue is the best to play at?
(SB) We’ve only played the Black Heart so far and every time its been awesome. I’m not sure where we are playing at Camden Rocks, so it will be good to notch up another venue.
(V) We used to love Barfly; we played there in our younger days. Apparently it’s changed now, so no idea if it will still be the same atmosphere.
Did you know that The Worlds End pub was built on the site of a witch’s house, directly opposite the local gibbet, do you know any Camden trivia?
(V) We’ve recently been informed that The Worlds End Pub was built on the site of a witches house. (Well, that must be true then – GIGsoup)
(SB) The only trivia we know is that Chris Evans once sold all of his possessions on a stall in Camden Market because one of his shows got axed.
Why should I as a gig goer make an effort to see you guys at Camden this year?
(SB) Our live show is where we bring our album to life and people get the full Stone Broken experience as soon as we hit the stage, there’s going to be a load of energy, its going to be in your face and its going to be loud!
