Camden Rocks “In Their Own Words” – Single By Sunday / Broken Witt Rebels

Single by Sunday are much less heavy rock, much more heavy petting. While reminding us of acts like The Vamps and 5 Seconds of Summer these good looking Glaswegian boys are full of energy and live are an act fully appreciated by their quickly growing fan base, your get what you’d expect from these pop-rock princes. In contrast Broken Witt Rebels do a remarkable thing, they sound like the Kings of Leon but actually come from the Midlands, their brand of straight up rock n roll will seem entirely at home at Camden Rocks this June where they are appearing alongside 250 other acts including Single by Sunday.

When did your relationship with Camden start?

(SBS) Our relationship started a while back, one of our Manager’s (Kendell) was in a band that played at the Under World, he never shuts up about it. We also found out that Amy Winehouse was a Camden girl and we love a bit of Amy.

(BWR) When we played time out rising stars event a couple of years ago at the jazz cafe it’s a very cool place. We liked the surrounding areas very vibrant

Have you played in Camden before?

(BWR) We have played loads of times, dingwalls and the jazz cafe to name a few.

(SBS) No, we haven’t, Kendell (Smith, manager – GIGsoup) has, though (apparently.) Our management applied for Camden Rocks last year but we never got it…… boo hoo!

What was your reaction when you knew you would be playing there this year?

(SBS) We were VERY EXCITED, great news for us. We spent a lot of time in text land; OMG, WTF etc etc

(BWR) A positive one. I just breathed the information in and exhaled as normal, we’ve played it before & we like it.

From the initial announcement of bands who are you looking forward to seeing?

(SBS) Absolutely everyone, it’ll be like going to an audible candy shop!

(BWR) Not one really. mostly I haven’t heard off many of the bands. The ones I have I’m not interested in really with all due respect.

Have you been to Camden Market, what did you buy?

(SBS) Yes we’ve been down a few times and we bought loads e.g. quite a lot of vintage stuff but Josh (lead singer) also got some really cool kind of shiny Latex trousers…. but he’s weird like that!

(BWR) Yeah we went and it’s cool I brought a curry from a stall, very nice all in my fucking belly.

Which Camden venue is the best to play at?

(BWR) Jazz cafe, we have played 3/4 times and we always love playing there . No one can escape the band that is playing as its central and built around the stage.

The Worlds End pub was built on the site of a witch’s house, directly opposite the local gibbet, do you know any Camden trivia?

(BWR) I never knew that but I do now, I like the pub we always have a drink in there when we arrive in Camden .. apart from that I know nothing more about Camden and that’s how I like it .

(SBS) No, we didn’t know that but we knew that Amy Winehouse was a Camden girl. That’s trivia enough for us, lol.

Why should I as a gig goer make an effort to see you guys at Camden this year?

(SBS) Because ‘Single By Sunday’ are the new face of credible guitar pop, we’re catchy, bouncy and not scared to jump around and enjoy ourselves and by the way, we’re also damned good looking, at least that’s what we’ve been told.

(BWR) Because we’re the best band that’s playing there this year. Let’s not beat around the bush.
