Named ‘Flight Brigade’ and boasting of an allegedly airborne string section this band may be light in weight but not in content. Described as both ‘orchestral indie folk’ and ‘a bit weird’ they are a testament to the variety of acts appearing at Camden Rocks Festival this year. We spoke to them, in English not German, about the festival and the area.
When did your relationship with Camden start?
Our guitarist (Tom Pink) was actually born in Camden, you can check his birth certificate! He also proposed to his wife on Primrose Hill. As a band we’ve all gone there throughout the years to see gigs, especially at the Roundhouse, which is one of the best venues around.
Have you played in Camden before?
We’ve been lucky enough to play in Camden a bunch of times, at the Proud Galleries, Underworld, Belushi’s, The Black Heart, The Enterprise and the Barfly of course.

What was your reaction when you knew you would be playing there this year?
Our reaction was….. “SWEEEET!”
From the announcement of bands so far who are you looking forward to seeing and who would you hope may yet make it on?
We saw Slaves at Bestival a couple of years ago, and they are absolutely incredible live. Not to mention hilarious. I hope that Alt-J are a surprise addition!
Have you been to Camden Market, what did you buy?
We’ve all bought plenty of stuff from Camden market. Some good, some not so good……. When I was 17 I bought a lime green Che Guevara T-shirt that I thought was pretty cool. It wasn’t.
Which Camden venue is the best to play at?
We absolutely loved playing at the Barfly, it attracts a good music loving crowd.
Camden Starbucks used to be the Lock-keeper’s lodge, do you know any Camden trivia?
I did not know that! I’ve seen more celebrities in Camden than anywhere else, mostly big brother contestants though, so maybe that doesn’t count.
Why should I as a gig goer make an effort to see you guys at Camden this year?
If you’ve never seen anyone playing violin whilst airborne, you should come see us. If you have, come anyway. Also we’ll be fresh back from our German tour, so you can hear how our Deutsch is coming along.
To see how well they ‘sprechen sie deutch‘, to swap stories of long forgotten pointless Z list celebrities or even to listen to something wonderfully different then get yourselves to Camden Rocks and specifically Dingwalls Canalside at 5pm on June 3rd.
