The “worlds friendliest party” returns to Finsbury Park on the 9th of June for it’s second outing, and we’ve picked our top five acts that you simply can’t miss. As usual, they’re in no particular order.
Sister Sledge are certainly a must see at Southport weekender 2018! The legendary soul group have been hitting the UK hard over the last month, and are set to take London by storm as Southport Weekender headliners this year.
Soul II Soul
Throughout the 80s and 90s, Soul II Soul represented a change in the sound and look of UK club music. Blending funk, soul and house, the group’s 1989 hit ‘Back To Life (However Do You Want Me)’ is one of the most recognisable tracks to ever be featured as part of UK club culture.
This man really needs no introduction. Jazzy Jeff is arguably one of the greatest DJs to ever walk the earth. With a career spanning more than twenty years, he’s best known for his close work with Will Smith during the golden years of ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ in the mid to late 90s. Seeing this man do his work is so much fun; you never know what he’ll bring to the table, or what record he’ll spin next. Make sure not to miss him at Southport Weekender 2018.
House Gospel Choir
The House Gospel Choir is a unique act straight out of the capital. Working with the likes of Annie Mac, the group brings a new live experience to the table that is simply incredible and uplifting. Out of all of GIGsoup’s favourites, this is the one to watch. Truly this is a unique group and a must-see.
Juliet Roberts combines an uplifting house sound with some incredibly rich vocals; the perfect taster before Sister Sledge’s headline slot. She’s a homegrown artist and it will be great to see her music translate into a live setting with a full band accompanying her. Roberts’ hits ‘Caught In The Middle’ and ‘I Want You’ both reached the number 1 spot on the US charts.
