Handmade Festival Preview : A Little Revolution

The East of England treat returns for it’s 5th year in just under two weeks and there is an exciting social media buzz from many of the local artists as they anticipate performing to the people of Leicester.

As usual, the organisers have a variety of music candy over the weekend and have set-up fantastic headliners. Twin Atlantic will be sure to hypnotise their audience on Saturday with their euphoric rock and Frightened Rabbit will not disappoint in juicing some infectious indie to the crowd.

But lest not forget the other acts as this festival is home to many, many other emerging and talented artists that will guarantee to be as equally captivating with their own unique concoction, in particular Gracie Petrie, performing on Friday, should be on the artist-to-watch list as her raw political lyrics are inspiring and emotive, making anyone who hears them, seriously contemplate the issues conspicuously written in her songs.

This local lass is double tasking; making movements throughout the UK with her songs and in her hometown campaigning to maintain the longevity of folk music alive with the youth and encourage wider diversity. There certainly will be an undercurrent of socio-poltical activism throughout the weekend as other outspoken artists such as IDLES, Sleaford Mods and LIFE take the stages.

There is no doubt that the Handmade Festival is helping to grow the artistic culture locally and nationally too as the event gets bigger every year, making it’s own movement.

It is an event not to miss and If you haven’t got your tickets yet, there’s still plenty of time and tickets left.
