The Great Escape, Europe’s leading festival for new music, has added over 100 artists to the initial lineup. News of the additional acts was released today following the initial announcement that Slaves and Rag ‘N’ Bone Man would play exclusive ‘Spotlight Shows’ with the likes of Cabbage, Ray BLK and The Magic Gang making up the rest of the extremely exciting bill.
Today’s influx of new talent once again included a range of musical and cultural diversity which is becoming increasingly important with the current landscape of mainstream music in the position that it finds itself in. Stormzy, who performed at last year’s festival, saw his debut album go to number one and has no doubt been an inspiration to many of the urban acts at The Great Escape. 18-year-old RAYE, south London’s newest and most exciting talent, has been making quite the impression after her collaborations with Charli XCX and she was among the newest artists announced to the lineup this morning.
The Amazon’s have burst on to the scene this year with their raw, riffy sound heard on singles ‘Black Magic’ and ‘Little Something’ and will also be making an appearance this year. Among the more household names are Superfood, Estrons and Zak Abel – who has been receiving a lot of attention on BBC Radio 1 recently after his track ‘Unstable’ was made one of their ‘tracks of the week’.
The extremely diverse range of countries being represented at The Great Escape was further increased today with the first Indian act on the bill being announced in the form of Parekh and Singh, a pop duo inspired by their mother’s cassette collection which included Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and even Geri Halliwell.
Tickets are still available for the festival, but are selling quickly so grab them while you can.
