With Brighton’s Great Escape Festival just under a month a way GIGsoup have selected 15 artists we feel you simply shouldn’t miss.

Today’s offering hail from the fair city of Exeter. Muncie Girls released their debut LP ‘From Caplan to Belsize’ earlier this year to much critical applause. An album dealing with subject matter ranging from relationships to politics the punk-rock 10 track has done much to enhance the bands reputation – with ‘Gas Mark 4’ and ‘Gone with the Wind’ proving to be playlist favourites.

With a list of live dates the length of Brighton’s sea front this is an ideal opportunity to see the trio in more intimate surroundings.

We spoke to the band about the festival and their other plans for 2016….

How does it feel to be playing The Great Escape 2016?

It feels pretttyyyyy, pretttyyyyy good to be playing. We play in Brighton a lot because it’s our second home town and also because it’s awesome, mostly at venues like Sticky Mike’s, The Hope and Ruin, Green Door Store and The Cowley Club. It’s gonna be super different playing at The Great Escape because it won’t be a punk show. Aside from our nerves, we’re very much looking forward to it.

How has your 2016 been so far?

We spent the first couple of months working, going to shows and getting things ready for our album release. When it came out last month, we did some release shows and it kind of feels like we’re still on tour since then. We won’t really have a break until September and I think this is going to be the best summer of our lives.

Describe yourself in 1 word

Anxious

What’s your essential go-to beach accessory? (Spade, towel, beers, Game Boy Colour etc)

An obvious choice, but sunglasses.

“The Great Escape” is also the name of a bonafide Gwen Stefani classic, aside from that what is your Gwen Stefani tune of choice?

I can’t say that I celebrate Gwen’s entire catalogue, but Just a Girl by No Doubt is a dance floor classic.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?

Probably either a best selling novelist or an olympic gold medalist in gymnastics or something.

What can we expect from your set at The Great Escape?

You can expect pyrotechnics and outrageous props. Kind of like a traveling circus but with less members.

If you could recommend 3 other acts to check out at this year’s festival, who would they be?

Definitely check out Woahnows. If you haven’t heard them then I feel sorry for you, but also a little bit jealous that you’ll get to hear them for the first time. Diet Cig are coming over I think for the first time and that’s super exciting. Skinny Girl Diet are really great and I haven’t seem them yet!

If you could be playing anywhere in the world in 12 months time, where would it be?

Most definitely Japan!
