With Brighton’s Great Escape Festival just a few weeks away GIGsoup have selected 15 artists we feel you simply shouldn’t miss.

Edinburgh’s Elle Exxe is very much an artist on the up and up. Her debut EP ‘Love To Hate You’ was championed by the likes of The Guardian to The Quietus, Gay Times and Popjustice and the artists star shows no sign of fading. Live, Elle Exxe has headlined KOKO as part of Club NME and has played a wealth of sold out shows across London and her Scottish homeland – attendees of the aforementioned shows (including GIGsoup’s own Tal Imagor) all seem to suggest that the artist throws herself fully into her performances and that she is one not to be missed.

It would appear that The Great Escape may be the perfect platform for Ms Exxe to bring a little sunshine to the seaside town of Brighton. We spoke to the artist about just that…

How does it feel to be playing at The Great Escape 2016?

It feels splendid! It’s a festival I’ve been to a few times and I really wanted to play, so was incredibly happy to be invited in their first wave of line-up announcements!

How has your 2016 been so far?

It’s been hardcore! Non-stop creating. I just finished mixing my album with Joe Kearns so now can look forward to getting back on stage and sharing all this new material!

Describe yourself in 1 word

What’s your essential go-to beach accessory? (Spade, towel, beers, Game Boy Colour etc)

A Rum punch and a good pair of sun-specs.

“The Great Escape” is also the name of the bonafide Gwen Stefani classic, aside from that what is your Gwen Stefani tune of choice?

Ugh there are too many! Probably “Hollaback Girl”

If you weren’t a musician, what you be?

I’d be running a creative-dream-world-hair-salon.

If you could have your dream festival (dead or alive), who would be the three headliners and why?

Queen (with Freddie), Prince, Michael Jackson.

What can we expect from your set at The Great Escape?

It’ll be wild, emotional and liberating. I take my role as an entertainer extremely seriously – so you gotta arrive ready to be entertained and give yourself permission to enjoy the heck out of yourself.

If you could recommend 3 other acts to check out at this year’s festival, who would they be?

Shakka SAY NADDAAAAA, Dagny (lovely and talented lassie I met at “Find The Female Headliner”) and Glass (Jess is another lovely and amazingly talented lady).

If you could be playing anywhere in the world in 12 months time, where would it be?

I’d love to play Edinburgh Castle in 12 months time! Know anyone who could make this happen?
