The deadline for the Green Man Rising 2017 competition for new bands and singer-songwriters is 31 May. The winner of this year’s contest will open the Green Man Festival’s Mountain stage on Friday 18 August, ahead of shows by Future Islands, Lift To Experience, British Sea Power, Hurray For The Riff Raff and others.
Green Man Rising 2017 is free to enter and the competition is open for applications now. All the details are online at gmfe.st/rising. Acts simply submit a photo, a short biography and some links to their music on any online platform. But with the deadline of Wednesday 31 May looming, acts need to get a move on.

A panel made up of the best and brightest arbiters of musical taste will listen through the longlist to come up with 20 semi-finalists. The music buffs will then each pick their six favourite acts from the semi-finalists and the six most popular acts across the their choices will be invited to play at a live final.
The Green Man Rising Final takes place at The Camden Assembly, London, on Wednesday 5 July. Green Man invites music industry bigwigs to the final from the likes of Beggars, Bella Union, Domino Records and Moshi Moshi. And we hope GIGsoup will be there to cover it.
Green Man Rising says the competition provides “a platform for the best emerging artists to shout loudly about their music”. Only the champion plays the Mountain stage, but the other finalists will appear on the Green Man Rising stage throughout the weekend.
Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru/Arts Council of Wales and the Green Man Trust provide financial support to make Green Man Rising possible. Last year’s winner was Tony Njoku, and the other finalists were Oh Sister, Oh Peas!, Shark Dentist, Her’s and Alone With Everybody.
Green Man takes place on 17-20 August in the Brecon Beacons, Wales. Headliners at this year’s festival are PJ Harvey, Future Islands, Ryan Adams and Ride. Tickets are on sale now from the Green Man website.
