Robert Smith will perform with “four curious friends” (geddit?) at the final night of his Meltdown Festival in a one-off band he’s calling Curætion-25 (geddit again?).
Smith’s two-hour show at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall (RFH) on Sunday 24th June will include undisclosed special guests. And Meltdown has added a new raft of headline and support acts to the festival lineup curated by Smith that’s at the Southbank on 15th-24th June.
US alt-rockers Death Cab For Cutie headline at the RFH on 18th June, singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega plays the Queen Elizabeth Hall (QEH) on 23rd June. Meltdown will bring the live sound experience ‘Liminal’ to the UK for the first time, as the QEH foyer hosts the work by Sigur Ros singer Jónsi, musician and artist Alex Somersand composerPaul Corley on 20th-22nd June.

Scotland’s Frightened Rabbit supported by London band Pumarosa play QEH on 19th June and Irish trio God Is An Astronaut headline the same venue on 18th June. Post-rock instrumental group Maybeshewill reunite for a show at QEH on the last night of the festival, with minimalist indie rockers Low headlining the venue on 20th June.
The intimate Purcell Room hosts space-rock group Loop on 17th June, with other acts playing the venue to include singer-songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle, US motorik-psychedelic trio Moon Duo, Wales’ The Joy Formidable, and alternative post-punk outfit And Also The Trees.
Meltdown has also lined up a bunch of support acts, including Drahla, James Walsh and Indian Queens. Some acts will play support one day and headline a gig on another day.
Tickets for newly added gigs are on sale to Southbank Centre members on 13th April and to the general public on 16th April.
Acts previously confirmed on the lineup include Psychedelic Furs, The Libertines, Placebo, Mogwai, Nine Inch Nails and My Bloody Valentine. Tickets for many of the shows released to Southbank Centre members on 13th March sold out within about an hour as the website went into meltdown.
