25-year-old, IVI was born in Austria but grew up in London, soaking in all the diverse artistic influences in the city and distilling them into her own heady musical brew. The result is a seductive pop alchemy and the scratchy intensity of her unique vocal timbre, evoking the style of twentieth-century femme fatale icon Marlene Dietrich. This is illuminated perfectly in IVI’s debut single, Andromeda – out now. She’s signed to Italian record label Quiet Please. Intriguing! We decided to do a Take 5…
When did you realise that you wanted to be a music artist? What or who has inspired you?
As long as I can remember I’ve always been drawn to music. I’ve always dreamt of a life as an artist, but never really allowed myself to make it a reality…until it clicked one day that this is my way. My parents introduced me to Johnny Cash and then he was absolutely my thing. So he definitely has inspired me from an early age on. Also very inspiring artists for me are Norah Jones, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Lauryn Hill…and the list goes on.
Who, living or dead, would you dream of collaborating with?
Tell us about your single –’Andromeda ‘- what is the song about?
I like the idea, that every single person puts its own unique thoughts and stories into a song. But for me Andromeda is a about the mavericks in our society. The ones, who dare to think differently. The ones who are willing to create their own truths in their own reality.
But also, from a different perspective, Andromeda is about the fact that we as human kind never have enough. We always want more- unmindful of other species and the planet. We need to change our thinking from more more more to sustainability for everyone.
Tell us five things you love about the city/town you live in, and why……
- The nature, because it makes me feel very calm.
- The mountains, because they make me feel like home.
- The calmness, because who like stress.
- My family, because they are my heart.
- My friends, because what would I do without them.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I’m looking forward to all the possibilities and opportunities the universe is sending.
