If 2013 wasn’t busy enough for Kettering’s psychedelic rock sensation ‘Temples’ then 2014 promises to be full of even more late nights, early caffeine soaked mornings and double-time weekends. James Bagshaw and company release new track ‘Mesmerise’ this week and we’ve decided it worthy of the GIGsoup ‘Track of the Day’ accolade.
‘Mesmerise‘ is taken from Temples eagerly anticipated debut album ‘Sun Structures’. The LP is released by Heavenly Recordings on 10th February 2014 and 11th February 2014 in the US, by Fat Possum. The release also marks Heavenly Recordings 100th album. Congratulations to them. ‘Mesmerise’ is an epic four minutes of rock music that occasionally lends from the halcyon days of 1996 and Kula-Shaker (the Tame Impala comparison is way off the mark for this release).
The new album ‘Sun Structures’ was self-produced by the band’s singer-guitarist James Bagshaw and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Ash, Chapel Club, and We Are Scientists). As well as containing today’s ‘Track of the Day’ the album also contains previous singles ‘Colours to Life’ (or if you’re American ‘Colors to Life’) and the excellent debut single ‘Shelter Song’.
It’s been an extremely quick ascent to rock super-stardom for the group. Their debut single ‘Shelter Song’ was only released in November 2012, after founding duo James Bagshaw and Thomas Warmsley uploaded four self-produced tracks to YouTube that then led to Heavenly Recordings signing the band. The release sparked interest from some of the leading UK indie-rock stars including Johnny Marr, Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher (with the latter openly stating that the band where the “best new band in Britain”).
