Following the 2019 release of ‘The Way It Is’, The Bob Baker Sound kick off their 2020 with new single ‘I’m Not The Same As You’. A rabble rousing call to arms, ‘I’m Not The Same As You’ calls to mind bands like Kasabian and The Courteeners at their anthemic best, with flashes of Jamie T-like lyrical observations thrown in for good measure.
we had a Boom! chat with Bob –
How did you first start making music?
I’ve been playing music for as long as I can remember, I started writing at the age of about 11 purely to amuse myself and loved how easy it was to get certain things across through my tunes
What artists have influenced your sound?
Johnny Cash, Oasis, The Smiths,
Courteeners, The Beatles
What was the inspiration behind you new EP?
The songs on the record are mainly inspired by experiences and the things that are most important to me. from growing up, to relationships, even football haha.
What are your plans and hopes for the record now its out?
The plan is to get out playing the tunes to as many people as we can and hope that they resonate with the crowds and listeners. Whether they can relate to the lyrics or just take pleasure from the sound, if people take something positive away from the music I feel like I’ve done my job as a writer/performer
What have been your favourite records of 2020 so far?
Honestly I can’t say there’s been much new stuff that’s blown me away since the start of the year, although I’m enjoying The new Blossoms record at the moment and like the new style they’re going for.
If you could give one tip to any aspiring bands what would it be?
It’s important to enjoy what you’re doing and the art you’re making. if you’re enjoying it, things become a lot easier and I believe you’ll be all the better for it.
