Today’s track of the day comes from Kid Bloom with ‘Lately It Feels Alright’.
Taken from the band’s forthcoming EP ‘A Different State of Mind’, the Californian quintet channel the likes of Tame Impala with their smooth vocals, hazy riffs and psychedelic vibes. With the band currently experiencing a rise in profile, the track builds on the success of their two previous singles ‘Electric U’ and ‘Different State of Mind’ and will surely see their reputation grow even further as a promising act for the future.
With a groovy, boppy edge and a catchy refrain, this latest offering from the five-piece has a laid-back, west coast feel to it that makes it perfect listening for summer.
We caught up with the band to hear more about the track, their influences and what’s in store..
Hey guys, can you tell us a bit about your song ‘Lately It Feels Alright’?
The song to us mirrors situations we’ve been through whilst out in LA. It’s amazing to us how people are more enamored with things such as status and money over just having a normal conversation. With ‘Lately’ we wanted to take a sarcastic approach which led to lines such as like “I should’ve stayed in bed today, lately it feels alright.”

It has quite a psychedelic, Tame Impala feel about it… were you inspired by any music in particular when writing it?
Being huge fans of tame impala we are not sure whether to be ashamed or proud of that. However, we wanted a psychedelic depth to a song that otherwise might sound very guitar driven. In short, we draw inspiration from a wide verity of music. We feel that the melodies need to stand out the most. We also have a dream of incorporating psychedelia back into popular music.
Why did you pick this as the next single?
With our last couple of releases we were very glittery and dreamy so we wanted to put something out that put a different face to the band. There’s more to come with this vibe. The track was fleshed out as a band and we’re happy with the feedback we’ve been getting.
Is it a taste of what’s to come in your debut EP? What can listeners expect?
The songs we’ve been writing recently fly in and out of psychedelic disto/grunge. Quite simply they are our favorite genres and we wish to manifest those styles in a new way. Every style of song that we have released so far will be evident on this EP as well as some surprises.
What else is coming up for the band?
EP aside, we are already halfway through writing another body of work with the goal of writing songs we love and pushing our envelope. Keep an eye for us on your phone. Chow.
