Anna Tosh’s new single ‘Weightless’ is an absolute joy to the ears. With addictive dreamy riffs, Anna’s beautiful voice and the stunning harmonies make it a track that will go far. ‘Weightless’ is the first release from the upcoming EP ‘One Big Fire’ released this Autumn. Having created such an original song that fuses, alt-rock, punk and soul into one this early into her career, Miss Tosh is definitely an artist to keep your eyes and ears on over the next few months. We recently got chance to speak to Anna regarding the new single and what’s to come for her.
Hi Anna, congratulations on your debut single ‘Weightless’! How does it feel to release it into the world?
Thank you. It feels like a slightly surreal triumph.
Could you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the track?
It was written about a recurring dream I used to have, that I was walking out into the ocean and swept away by the tide, but it felt more like an adventure into the unconscious realm rather than drowning. It’s about contacting the dead and greeting the unknown future.
You’ve been in various bands since your early teenage years, what made you make the step to go forward as a solo artist?
I’ve learned a huge amount from playing and collaborating with other people, and I got to the point where I wanted to see what would happen if I was left completely to my own devices.
Who are some of your main influences?
Patti Smith, Captain Beefheart, Nick Cave, Nine Inch Nails, Sheryl Crow.
You’re EP ‘One Big Fire’ is set for release this autumn, what can we expect from it?
There are 5 songs on the EP. It is meant to be a snapshot of this moment in time, it’s heartfelt and was made with joy. The lyrics are mainly about my relationships: with friends, lovers, myself, the world…
You’ve developed an original sound, fusing together soul and alt-rock, how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard you before?
I’d say we are melting late 70’s/early 80’s NYC post punk and 90’s alt rock together, with a modern recording sound and a definite London feel.
Hailing from the capital, London, who are some great new bands we should keep an eye on?
Black Hay, Vito Camaro, Deep City Diver

What can we expect from you over the next few months?
I’m just about to drop the video for ‘Weightless’ so keep an eye out for that!
‘One Big Fire’ will be released in early October, so some London gigs around that date and up to the end of the year (EP launch show is Oct 10th at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston).
I’ll be shooting videos for all the tracks off the EP which will keep me busy for a while, also I’m currently away in the countryside and have started writing the next EP. So plenty to come!
