If you want creativity, mixed in with smooth vocals and abstract video ideas then look no further that hotly-tipped British singer-songwriter Kelvin Jones’ and his new single ‘Call You Home’. After winning Best Newcomer at the British Urban MusicAwards, signing to Sony, touring with Izzy Bizu and about to go out on the road again with James Morrison, Kelvin Jones has achieved a great deal in a short space of time.
The artists will be releasing his debut album ‘Stop The Moment’ on March 25th through Epic Records. The 12-track collection is due to be an eccentric and absorbing debut from one of the UK’s most exciting new male solo artists.
GIGsoup are happy to make ‘Call You Home’ today’s Track of the Day and as this talented artist appears to be making such an impact we thought we’d better get in quick and ask a few to find out a little bit more about the man behind the music…
Winning Best Newcomer at theBritish Urban MusicAwards in November2015 must have been a massive highlight for you! Are there any new milestones you would like to achieve in 2016?
It was as huge highlight and a real honour. Being that it was for Best Newcomer, I feel that most of my goals for 2016 are to prove that point. I’d love to do a bunch of headline shows in England, and play at some festivals!
You supported Izzy Bizu on the 27th January, Exciting times! How did you guys meet?
I just supported Izzy Bizu on her tour recently and it was truly fantastic! Her audience was so welcoming and open to new music. I’ll be supporting X Ambassadors on the European leg of their tour soon and I’m ridiculously excited of course!
Your album ‘Stop The Moment’ is due to be released in March and already has had positive buzz with ‘Closer’ being a popular hit last year. What are your expectations with the album?
My album, Stop the Moment, will indeed be coming out in March this year. That’s kinda freaky to just say because it seems too real too soon! I have no real ‘chart expectations’ in all honesty. I just want it to mean something to people. I tried to make something that I really connect with so hopefully it will connect with others.
Are there any artists/producers you would like to collaborate with in 2016?
Too many to really name! But I’m loving, like everyone else, that Jack Garratt is doing, I’d love to hear what he’s like when he’s let loose to really dig into his guitar playing. I’ve heard flourishes here and there and I think we share influences and he’s killing it! And it goes without saying that James Bay would be great to work with, no explanation needed!
Your video for your new track ‘Call You Home’ is out featuring a TV sent up into space, which has been nominated for various video awards? Who came up with the notion in the video and what is the meaning behind it?
The director, Joe Connor came up with this super cool idea of sending an actual TV into space! No green screen, no faking. The idea behind it was that when he listened to the song, he just felt lost in this day dream and his head went into space, but then there’s also that aspect of coming ‘home’ to earth linking with ‘Call You Home’
You are signed to one of the biggest labels worldwide- Sony? How did you come to be signed to them? How did you decide which record label to sign to?
How I came to sign with them is still a bit of a mystery to me because it happened so seamlessly.
I don’t feel like I really chose the ‘label’ as such, I quite frankly made my decision on people. They just appeared honest and enthusiastic about why I’m doing and that was and is enough for me!
You have been tipped to be one to watch in 2016! This must be an amazing feeling? Are there any memorable moments that come out on top so far in your journey?
So far…yeah there’s been an insane amount of memorable moments. To mention a few; the time when I first heard an audience sing along to my son Call You Home, the time when I looked up to an audience of 2000 and they all had their lights up, and the first time I heard Call You Home on the radio in the car!!
