BOOM! : The Sherlocks ‘Last Night’

This Sherlocks article was written by Sarah Ebockayuk, Track of the Day Editor

Sheffield based four-piece indie rockers ‘The Sherlocks’ are well deserving as our latest ‘Track of the Day’ accolade. Their current single ‘Last Night’ is a wonderful heady mix of indie-rock coupled with a quite infectious chorus – also with a brief nod back to early ‘Courteeners’ thrown in for good measure. The band consists of two sets of brothers who crossed paths when they bonded over football and music. They have cited their mutual appreciation and influences of bands such as The Artic Monkeys, Oasis and The Beatles.

Only forming in 2010 they have already sparked impressive achievements within the industry – selling out over 300 venues thus far, supporting bands such as The Enemy and The Buzzcocks and currently supporting The Libertines on the Northern leg of their UK tour.

‘Last Night’ follows the success of their debut single ‘Live for the Moment’ which peaked at number 91 in Official UK Singles Chart, while their second single, ‘Escapade’, hit the charts at number 45. So what is next for the band? And why The Sherlocks as a name? GIGsoup endeavoured to find out…

What made you come up with the name Sherlocks for the band and what does the meaning represent to you boys?

It’s a mystery. We like to keep the meaning to ourselves.

The Sherlocks consists of 2 sets of brothers! How is it working in close proximity with your family members? Is there much privacy?

It’s something we’ve always done so we don’t know any different

You guys formed in 2010 how did you decide what sound/genre you would portray?

We didn’t decide on the sound genre, we just moulded together to great our own unique sound.

You have racked up an impressive resume since your formation including support acts such as Reverend and the Makers. You are currently supporting The Libertines on Tour! How did that come about? It must be exciting!

We were in band practice and we got a phone call asking if we wanted to support the Libertines in the arenas. We didn’t believe it at first, 20mins later we were announced!

How would you describe your sound in 5 words?

Uplifting, Energetic,

How would you describe your musical process. Is there a designated songwriter in the band? Who/what are your main influences?

Kiaran writes all the songs, we’re influenced by guitar bands!

What is your best highlight to date?

Packing out the tents with thousands of people at Reading & Leeds Festivals at 11:30am in a morning was incredible.

Any exciting plans for 2016? Album? Exciting collabs?

You’ll have to wait and see. We’ve got a lot lined up but we can’t tell you what just yet. Plenty to announce.
